Dyslexia Awareness Month

From OVBIDA Vice President, Cari Kelly

In October, we are proud to celebrate the incredible individuals with dyslexia in our community. As an educator, parent, and individual with dyslexia, I know firsthand that dyslexia presents challenges, but it does not define our intelligence, potential, or ability to succeed. This month, we celebrate the strengths, determination, and accomplishments of individuals with dyslexia while continuing to advocate for early identification, evidence-based instruction, and access to the resources every learner deserves.

To our Dyslexic Community:

  1. Your brain learns differently, and that is something to embrace! Your strengths, talents, creativity, and unique perspectives are valuable. Never let reading difficulties define what you can achieve.
  2. Your voice matters! Advocate for yourself, ask for the tools and support you need, and never be afraid to share your story. Your experiences can inspire others and help build greater understanding.
  3. Celebrate your progress, not just your destination! Every accomplishment matters. Recognize your hard work, embrace your strengths, and remember that learning is a journey, not a race.

Until Everyone Can Read!

At OVBIDA, our mission goes beyond raising awareness. We are committed to empowering families, supporting educators, advocating for individuals with dyslexia, and promoting structured literacy and evidence-based reading instruction.

This October, we invite our community to join us in spreading awareness, sharing stories, and championing literacy for all. Together, we can make a difference—one reader at a time.

Happy Dyslexia Awareness Month!
